On the verge of her 30th birthday, Leigh (Kristen Bell) leaves her busy life and job in New York City behind for her parents suburban home. Taking her old summer job as a lifeguard, she falls into her teenage life: hanging out, partying in the woods, and coming home late, leading to a dangerous affair that threatens to tear lives apart. With an all-star cast that also includes Martin Starr (“Party Down,” Knocked Up), Mamie Gummer (Side Effects) and Oscar nominee Amy Madigan, The Lifeguard features Kristen Bell like you’ve never seen her before.

My girlfriend and I saw this film and loved it. Amazing performances from Kristen Bell and the high school kid.

While it's not perfect, I think this movie is better than most of the criticism it's received, professional or otherwise. I've even seen people online (esp. at IMDB) make discussions about the relationship with Bell's character, and the teen that falls for her. Some of them claim that movies like this further encourages society's decline. It's fair discussion, I suppose, but that's overkill to me. I don't need to have my intelligence insulted. Ever heard of suspending your beliefs while watching a movie? I got it, it's not good to engage in relationships like this, but it's nothing new. This behavior, for better or worse, has been around since the beginning of recorded history.

Back to the movie... I've definitely never seen Kristen in such a dramatic role. It's a side of her that I could absorb in terms of the movie's story. I'd love to watch this again sometime in the future, preferably with someone I love.
